Carol L. Stimmel, is the author of several books, including 3 standard texts (with another due in 2016), syndicated research producer, analyst, and frequent speaker. She founded Manifest Mind to ensure that companies and investors have the information they need to make enduring investment decisions in the complex world of cleantech and sustainability. She is recognized chiefly for her two most recent publications Building Smart Cities: Analytics, ICT and Design Thinking and Big Data Analytics Strategies for the Smart Grid,

Since 2004, she has been exclusively developing, researching and speaking on energy and cleantech topics, as a subject matter expert on behavioral home energy management, the smart grid, home orchestration, data analytics, sustainability, and smart cities. She has participated in new ventures for the majority of her career, including engineering, designing new products, and providing market intelligence and analysis to new media and energy industry stakeholders. Years before "big data analytics” ever became buzzword compliant, Stimmel began working with massive streams of experimental flight data, hacking code and modeling 3D systems for meteorological and aviation research—in 1991 . 

She has owned and operated a digital forensics company, worked with cutting-edge entrepreneurial teams, and authored many industry publications. Among other positions, she serves as an advisor to Engerati, was the Vice President of New Ventures at Gartner; Vice President of Research at E Source; software and hardware product designer at Tendril; and Director of the Smart Utilities Practice at Navigant Research.

She holds a BA in Philosophy from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College, but we don't talk about that) and has satiated her curiosity by continuing coursework in various disciplines, including anthropology at the University of Virginia, energy at Stanford, and leadership at the Daniels School of Business.  In early 2016, Carol received a merit fellowship from Clark University to attend the Master's Program in International Development and Social Change program to finish in 2018.

She has participated in many presentations and panels for private industry, international conferences, government interests, and public interest groups. She has also written for, provided background, been interviewed by, and often-quoted by major media and industry outlets.
