    He was a hometown favorite.

    In an event as painful and humiliating for Cavs fans as it was unprecedented for a free agent, LeBron James left Cleveland to join the Miami Heat—and became the player across the country fans rooted against.

    2010-2011 was a challenging year for him, with no championship and the cloud of leaving the Cavs, LeBron’s brand was adrift. He knew he needed to rewrite his story and refocus his brand.

    He went on to win 2 championships in 4 years with the Heat. In 2014 he went back home to the Cavs, a decision made out of a sense of purpose, community, and connection. “My relationship with Ohio is bigger than basketball.”

    In 2016 he delivered the elusive championship to the Cavs.

    Now, he’s going Hollywood but this time he’s leaving his hometown which much more than a championship. He revitalized the city.

    Business is up 13% and job creation up 20%.

    Know when to pivot. It is never too late to redesign your  personal brand. Never forget your roots, your story, your journey.  Keep your promises. It’s okay to make mistakes but learn from them.  Act and create with a sense of community.
